For many years, I have been dealing with pre-menopause symptoms, including hot flashes, weight gain, etc. It was frustrating for me, as I know it is for many other athletic women. The hardest change is seeing the difference in my athletic performance, as I have gotten older. Just recently, I hit my one year mark of not having periods, which is the actual day of “menopause”. So now I am post-menopause. Obviously this is due to natural hormonal changes. Since I am weigh myself regularly, tracking body fat percentage numbers, I have noticed the drastic change in the last 6-12 months proceeding "menopause". While still maintaining my active lifestyle and eating healthy as I have before, my body composition was still changing.
While I do understand I need to embrace aging, that doesn’t mean I can throw up my hands and do nothing. I simply don’t like to my muscle being replaced with fat so I had to make changes. My hormones changed and so my active lifestyle that had worked for years had to change too. As we age, our calorie needs decrease because we have less muscle and more fat.That means I need to make some changes that would help my body age better.
I lost 6.5% body fat and gained nearly 10 pounds of muscle in 3 weeks, all post menopause!
