Update (9/26/2013) –  They have had problems with scheduling the venue and a conflict with the district so they have had to cancel it this year but plan to hold it next year, they are looking at the beginning of August in 2014, so look for it.

I love this time of year!  Autumn reminds me of the Cross-Country season (my favorite) in high school and running in the cool crisp air.  I just love the sound and smell of the leaves crunching under my feet.  It’s the perfect time of year to run!  In high school our State XC meets were always close to Halloween.  Our colors were black and orange so we took it as a good omen and maybe that is why the GJHS tigers had so many Colorado state titles; of which I was privileged to be part of two state championship XC teams.  I have so many fond memories of those years.  That is why it’s exciting to see a State XC meet recreated and an opportunity to relive the glory days.  I miss racing on the glassy golf courses!  It’s also fun to see them put together a race for all of us that want to challenge ourselves on the actual State HS course.  I have run this course before in college when I ran for the “U” and it’s a fun one.  But this time everyone can run it…no need to meet any qualifications.  They are also offering a free kids 1K after the 5K event on November 2, 2013 starting at 9 a.m.  This race isn’t very expensive either, so it’s affordable for families.  Join in the fun!  To learn more visit http://statexcrace.com/

Here’s a picture of me running in high school.  Go tigers!  Still running after all these years.  ~ Coach Lora Erickson, www.BlondeRunner.com
