I recently read this quote by Robin Williams. “I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up alone, it’s not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people that make you feel alone.” ~ Robin Williams
I think when we feel most alone is when we don’t feel supported or cared for by others. This quote really made me reflect on my own life and the people in it. “Are they supportive of my goals?” Then I had to ask myself “Am I supportive of their goals?” “Am I supportive of my children’s goals”
For the most part I would say yes because as a coach, most people in my life come to me for support and direction, which is something I enjoy doing. But I feel it’s important for me to be around people that are positive, uplifting and encourage me to achieve my goals as well. I have learned over the years that sometimes you have to ask for support from people. So, if you aren’t getting the support you need and feel alone, try to ask for it and see what happens. You might also try to create a support system for yourself and surround yourself with people that enjoy the same things you do. That is why I love the running and triathlon community. There are hundreds of us out there supporting each other.
