Girls on the Run Salt Lake is a nonprofit program that educates and prepares girls for a life time of self-respect and healthy living. Girls on the Run Salt Lake started in 2007 and has grown from 2 sites to 18 sites this Spring, reaching over 300 girls and their families per session (fall and spring). The 10-12 week program combines an interactive curriculum and running to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in 3-5th grade girls. The core curriculum addresses many aspects of girls' development - their physical, emotional, mental and social well-being. Lessons provide girls with the tools to make positive decisions and avoid at-risk behavior such as eating disorders, substance abuse, depression, obesity, and adolescent pregnancies. The program concludes with all participants walking or running in the New Balance Girls on the Run 5K. This fun community event will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2011 at 9:00am at Sugarhouse Park. Runners and walkers of all abilities are urged to register to support the program. To learn more visit www.girlsontherunsaltlake.org.
